The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) provides three years of funding for graduate students in eligible STEM and social sciences fields, STEM education, and the history of science. Funding includes a yearly $37,000 stipend awarded to the GRFP fellow and a $12,000 cost of education allowance to their graduate institution, creating opportunities for awardees to take a leave from teaching or other duties and to have increased freedom in pursuing their individual research interests.

To be eligible for the NSF GRFP, you must:

  • Be a US citizen, US national, or permanent resident
  • Intend to pursue a research-based master’s or PhD program in a GRFP-supported field
  • Be enrolled in an eligible program at an accredited United States graduate institution, with a US campus, by fall following selection
  • Have completed no more than one academic year of full-time graduate study (or the equivalent)

Please note: Graduate students are limited to only one application to the GRFP, submitted either in the first or second year of graduate school.

In this hybrid workshop series, you will learn about review criteria for the NSF GRFP, what the review panels are looking for and how to write a strong application. This program is for rising senior undergraduates, master's students and first-year PhD students. Workshops will be held in person in 107 Capen Hall (North Campus) and over Zoom.
